The Kilkenny Storm hit the road early this morning, traveling to Clare for an exciting day of hockey with three back-to-back matches lined up. Spirits were high, and the energy was electric as the kids laced or should I say parents laced up their skates, buzzing with anticipation for the first puck drop. Coach Paul and assistant coach Marcis led the team out to the rink, keeping the players focused and fired up as they began their warm-up.
Game 1: Kilkenny Storm vs Mayo Bulls
The first match of the day was against the Mayo Bulls, and right from the start, the pace was relentless. Both teams flew across the floor with intensity, but it wasn’t long before Storm struck first — a thunderous opening goal from Ludy after just five minutes sent the Kilkenny bench into a roar. It was the perfect start.
The momentum kept building as Aoife netted her first-ever goal for Kilkenny Storm, a proud moment for both her and the team. Ewen and Josh followed up with impressive goals of their own, showcasing quick hands and solid teamwork. Ludy added to his tally with another slick finish. The Bulls managed to get on the scoreboard as well, but Storm’s dominant performance sealed a convincing and confidence-boosting win to kick off the day. 5-1

Game 2 – Storm vs Mayo Bulls
After a well-earned 45-minute break following their strong opening win, our U13s returned to the rink ready to face the Mayo Bulls once again. The energy was still high, and the confidence from Game 1 was clearly showing.
From the first faceoff, both teams came out skating hard, but it was Kilkenny Storm who took control early on. With fantastic teamwork and fluid passing, our players found their rhythm quickly and began carving through the Bulls’ defense. The Storm found the back of the net four times in this one, with goals coming from a mix of sharp finishing and creative playmaking.
The Bulls managed to slip one past our defense, but Kilkenny kept their composure and stuck to their game plan. Standout moments included quick transitions from defense to attack and solid puck control in the offensive zone. It was a real showcase of how far our team has come in terms of chemistry and structure.
When the final whistle blew, it was another well-earned win for the Storm, and the players were happy to catch their breath and recharge before their toughest challenge of the day.

Game 3 – Storm vs Clare Badgers
With tired legs and determination still strong, the final game of the day saw Kilkenny Storm line up against a tough Clare Badgers side. The puck dropped, and within the first 8 minutes, the Badgers hit fast and hard, scoring twice and putting Storm under early pressure.
Fatigue was starting to show, but the team didn’t give in. After a regroup and some motivating words from the coaching staff, the Storm skaters hit floor with renewed fire. A crucial goal got us back into the game, cutting the deficit and lifting spirits.
Momentum began to shift. The Storm fought back, displaying grit and resilience, and were rewarded with a second goal to level the match. The intensity was ramping up — and with the game on the line and time ticking down, Kilkenny struck once more with a beautiful goal, bringing the score to 3-3.
It was a thrilling finish, and while the win narrowly escaped us, the draw felt like a victory after such a hard-fought comeback.
Across all three games, the Kilkenny Storm U13s showed passion, teamwork, and heart. With standout performances from every player, and key moments of brilliance both in attack and defense, it was a fantastic day of hockey. The coaches, parents, and supporters couldn’t be prouder.
Storm continues to grow stronger with every game — and today, they proved just how much heart this team really has.
Well done, team!
